Great ring road around Prague completed. Enjoy!
October 2023
The TCT runs through Prague, but only lightly passes by it. And that’s a shame, because there’s plenty of nice riding around Prague. When I posted about an offroad loop around Prague on Facebook here a while back, quite a few people thought it was an unwise idea. And their arguments had a rational core. I let it ripen and plotted the “Great Ring Around Prague” – it’s 2-3 times longer than the original, circling Prague for a greater distance than the TCT passes it today.
The route is chosen for a relaxing trip on a big adventure bike, without unexpected hits and surprises. Any harder sections can be ridden in wet conditions.
Routes are routed as far away from residential areas as possible (less so near Prague, almost always further away), no prohibition signs, minimum barriers, outside national or nature parks. The inspiration for this fun is the Trans Czech Trail, and the same rules, recommendations, advice and behaviour apply to the routes below as for the TCT. Read them carefully to ensure the long-term passability of these trails.
Traveled mostly in dry weather on KTM 890 Adventure + E09 and BMW GS1200. The average experienced rider can do the route without any problems. Dry rideable on 30/70 and 50/50 tyres like Mitas E-07, Anakee Adventure etc. After rain, some sections are worse, typically where there is slippery ground, a muddy trail on an incline, a trail just past a field or a grassy section. In this case, I recommend more plugs (Mitas E-09, TKC 80, etc.).
